The second in my series about sports in Stavanger, this time I’m taking a look at getting involved in team sports.  One thing we noticed on first moving here is that amateur clubs for adults to get involved in seem less popular than our experience back in the UK.  However, with a bit of digging you’ll be sure to find out something which you, or the kids, can occupy yourselves with!

Football

The largest local football club in Stavanger is Viking FK, and they play in the Norwegian Premier League. The club plays its home matches at the football stadium, Viking Stadion, Jåttåvågveien 11 A, 4020 Stavanger, which was opened in 2004.  More information about the club and related activities can be found at their website www.viking-fk.no.  If your kids are interested in football and would like to get involved in playing, Viking FK also run academies and courses for junior players.  They run between 7 and 9 football schools a year for 8-14 year olds, and academies for 13 – 19 year olds.  Email viking@viking-fk.no to find out more info.

FK Vidar who play at Lassa Idrettspark, Adjunkt Hauglands gate also have a Football School for kids.  http://www.fkvidar.no/fotballskolene or email Sindre Norgren at sindre@fkvidar.no for more information.

If you are just interested in having a kick about with friends, you can always hire a room in a sports centre.  Check out the list here
