Finding anyone or services in a new country with a different language can be a daunting process. Hopefully, this short article may help you out!

Locating People

To locate someone, check the telephone catalogue (telefonkatalogen). By putting in a person’s full name, you can get their telephone numbers and current address. Sometimes, you can even find the person you’re looking for solely by their first name (of course, this only works for unusual/foreign names). Other similiar websites include 180, Opplysningen 1881 and 1888.

If you have a missed call from an unknown number and would like to find out who tried to ring you, simply input the telephone number into the search engines of the above sites and you will be able to find out who your mystery caller is.

Alternatively, you can call 1881 or 1888 to speak to a telephone operator and obtain information.

If you happen to be trying to construct your family tree and need to find information about your ancestors, check out The National Archives of Norway.

Locating Places

FINN offers a really good map complete with location of schools, hospitals, busstops, train stations and other amenities. Alternatively, useGoogle Maps which, in my opinion, is the most user-friendly. Other maps include GuleSider Kart, 1881 Kart and NorgesKart.

Locating Companies and Services

You can use GuleSider, 180, 1881, 1888 to search for companies and services. In addition, you can find services on FINN oppdrag and MittOppdrag where you insert information regarding the type of service you need and the service providers (electricians, carpenters, plumbers, etc) will contact you.
