Banking in Norway is reasonably similar to banking in the other places; there are two main types of banks: commercial and savings, both of which offer personal banking services. In order to open a bank account, a Norwegian personal number is required as well as proof of identification; there are limits on the amount of Norwegian Kroner that can be exported. Norway does not use checks.

Giro’s(Bill)
Sometime during your stay in Norway you’ll be confronted by a giro–one will appear in your mail box, you’ll receive one with a monthly bill, or you’ll be requested to “send a giro”. A giro is a note telling a financial institution to transfer money from one account to another. It is as simple as that. There are two types of giros: postgiros, used within the postal financial system, and bankgiros, used within the banking financial system.
Paying Bills is commonly done online now days through your bank. Speak with your bank to find out more about the process. You will basically fill out your name, address and account number; the creditor’s name, address and account number; and the amount to be paid. If necessary, write what the payment is for, to be certain no mix-ups occur.
