Interview with Angela Fisher, organizer of the Stavanger Play Group.
Where are you from?
Scotland, mostly in Aberdeen
How long have you lived in Stavanger?
We moved here in June last year, so 1 year 3 months!
What brought you to Norway?
My husbands job, he works for Schlumberger.
Have you been an expat before?
Yes, we spent almost 2 years in France. We lived outside Paris, a place called Fontainebleau.
Do you feel you have started to integrate into the culture and lifestyle here?
Yes, I think it’s really easy to settle in here. We have even adopted the more “outdoorsy” lifestyle and i dont even flinch now at the cost of a loaf of bread! It also helps that the locals are so willing to speak English!
Any advice for newcomers?
You get used to the prices here, honestly! Travel around a bit to see the country.
What do you do?
I’m a stay at home mum at the moment. I have a 2 year old and we are expecting number two in January.
Can you tell us about the Stavanger Play Group?
It’s a really informal group. For kids of all ages from babies to older toddlers. We have lots of toys to suit most age groups and have themed parties throughout the year, Halloween will be our next one. We provide hot drinks and cakes for the parents, just bring a snack for the kids. We ask for 10kr per family per visit to cover the cost of supplies, replace toys, fund parties etc. It’s a really good way to meet other people and let your kids burn off some energy at the end of the week! We love having new people come along!
What do you like best about Stavanger?
There is so much to do here with young kids and it’s really easy to meet other expats. We definitely spend more time out and about, Stavanger and the surrounding areas are so scenic. It’s a great place to bring up children.
How can you be contacted if people want more information on the Play Group? email me!
