Private Ultrasound
If your condition does not warrant an early ultrasound, you will have to wait til you are 18-19 weeks pregnant before getting a routine ultrasound. Can’t wait to see your baby? Fret not! Sigrids Ultra is here to help. Costing only 500NOK for a normal ultrasound and 800NOK for a 3D one, it is affordable and gives you the opportunity to see your little one. Depending on the week of pregnancy you are in, Sigrid will explain to you in detail what she sees and also measure your baby’s heartbeat!

Embryo at 8 weeks

Benefits of An Early Ultrasound
* Determining the age of the pregnancy
* Determining whether the uterus is growing faster or slower than expected and pinpointing the reasons why this might be occurring
* Examining the baby’s physical development and functions such as breathing, heartbeat, excretion, and body movement
* Determining whether the pregnancy is ectopic (occurring elsewhere rather than the uterus)
* Determining whether there is a multiple pregnancy (i.e., twins, triplets, quadruplets)
* Determining the due date of the pregnancy
* Allowing yourself and your partner to ‘see’ the baby and bond with it.

The 2nd Doctor’s Appointment
At this appointment, the nurse will take more blood tests and a urine sample. The doctor then checks your blood test results from the first appointment. He should also inform you of which midwife (jordmor) to go to. Seeing the midiwfe is part of your pregnancy checks (svangerskapskontroll).

Other than that, the doctor will check your weight, blood pressure and ask you general questions about your well-being.

Appointment with the Midwife
The doctor will refer you to a midwife at a health station (helsestasjon). You will have to call and give your details and they will send you a letter in a few weeks for the appointment date and time.
