Next week, Stavanger will be transformed for a fantastic weekend of food – Gladmat! It’s the 13th Gladmat festival this year, and from 20th – 23rd July there will be plenty of activities to get involved in, and best of all, plenty of food to eat. Gladmat is Scandinavia’s largest food festival, expecting around 250,000 visitors over the 4 days, so make sure you squeeze in a visit to town to check out the great variety of food and buzzing atmosphere around the harbour.

Soak up the ambience by wandering around the stalls and sampling tasty treats. But to make the most of your experience, check out their programme to find out what special events will be on…

Here’s a snapshot of what you can get up to:
• BBQ courses for kids and adults – make your own burgers and kebabs with Kjøttbransjens Elitelag
• Step aboard the M/S Elizabeth fishing boat for a tour by some of our local fishermen on how to catch mackerel and herring. Usually out at sea, the boat will be docked in the harbour on Wednesday and Thursday especially for tours.
• Chocolate courses with Pralin Chocolate Workshop
• Wine and cheese tasting in the cheese tent
• Join Ostehuset for a picnic in the park on Saturday
• Pizza making for kids at Dolly Dimples
• Especially for the kids – a visit to Gladmatøya, Gladmat’s very own parent free food island! Tour by boat from the harbour each day, for children 5-16 yrs old.
We had a ball at last year’s Gladmat, from supping champagne to walking through Stavanger’s food history and speeding across the fjord on a speed boat. You can read all about here. We’d love to hear about what you get up to at this year’s festival, so please post your comments here and on our Facebook page!
